What Causes Sinking Feeling In Chest While Working Out?
Hi. I am a 41 yr old male. I was a runner doing on average 5 -10k every other night with no issues. I came in one night and went to bed as normal. I woke up in the early hours with a sinking feeling in my chest and felt awful for a few days after. I contacted my gp and they did all the usual ecg checks and scans and I am showing an athletic heart rate and blood pressure. It has made it now that I cannot do any exersion at all without this triggering the turns a few hours later. The doctors are baffled. I have w hiatus hernia and I am on nexium. I was perfectly healthy but this has destroyed my normal way of life. Any ideas??.
The hiatus hernia is related to weakness in the diaphragmatic tissue making herniation of stomach parts into the chest. The hiatus hernia is correctable by laparoscopic surgery and hence there would be best option for your cure. You can resume your normal athletic activities later on once the surgery part is recovered totally.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
