What Causes Sinus, Congestion And Persistent Cough In Children?

My son and I were told by the doctor we have the crud. He prescribed anti-biotic and we are finished taking them. We both have sinus, congestion and a presistant cough. It has been way over 6 weeks for me with this crud and he is on his week 4. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this crud

Hi,

Persistent cough, congestion and sinusitis are related with each other. A long course of sensitive antibiotic can resolve the issue. I would advise you to get a sputum culture done to see the effectiveness of the antibiotic which you are consuming (whether its effective towards the pathogen you are infected with).

I also would like to advise you to take steam inhalation(thrice a day), a cough expectorant (2 tsp thrice a day) and another medicine called Ambroxol which you find as tablets or in cough syrups(one tab twice a day). A 5 to 7 days course of sensitive antibiotic (as per the report of sputum culture and sensitivity) should get you rid of your problem. Cough may get longer, up to a month or more to disappear.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
