My brother quit drinking over 100 days ago. Ever since he has been extremely sick. He detoxed in the hospital. Once they let his out he got the flu, then a sinus infection and after that the got some kind of virus. His doctor has been telling him for months he just has a virus. He started having migraines about two months ago and not is having constant sore throat and upset stomach. He s been to his doctor repeatedly. he lives in a very small country town. I keep telling him to come to my town of Bend, Or. where there are specialists he could see in our ER.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read your description and understand your concern. Based on the description, it appears that your could be having infection of sinuses called 'sinusitis', which could be caused due to decreased immunity following viral infection. It is not related to quitting of smoking. Kindly do the following to overcome the symptoms. 1. Do salt water gargling with warm water twice daily. 2. Take a course of oral antibiotics like Azithromycin once a day for 3 days. 3. Use medicated lozenges for throat soothening. 4. Take steam inhalation regularly, which will help to keep the sinus and air passages open. 5. Take decongestant medication in the form of syrup which contains chlorpheniramine maleate, phenylephrine, menthol and guaifenesin. 6. Avoid consumption of cold items like cool drinks and ice-creams. 7. Take protein supplements and protein rich foods to improve immunity. Gradually, he should be able to overcome the symptoms and get better. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best and wishing him good health. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S. MBBS., MD.
