What Causes Skin Discolouration On Neck And Chest When With A History Of Parvovirus?

My daughter was diagnosed with parvovirus b19 while pregnant. She had iron infusions to strengthen her red blood cells due to concerns of blood loss during pregnancy. She now has developed discoloration to her neck and chest and face that is red all the time and not going away. There is no pain or swelling with the rash and the Doctors she is seeing seem to think she is just drug seeking and not diagnosing properly.. Any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The discoloration of neck, chest and face with history of parvo B 19 infection, can be concerned with viral infection itself as post rash residual effects over melanin levels or else. However, in my clinic, I do recommend to evaluate the presence of antigens and antibodies against the red blood cell in the blood smear which will help to distinguish the cause of the same and management accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
