Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m having a lot of skipped heart beats for the last few days (I ve also had a cold for the last few days). Although I ve had these at times my entire life (I m 56), this has been almost continuous and I m having as many as 10 or so per minute. It will last for several hours, then may stop for awhile and return later. I ve cut down on my morning coffee the last couple days (I only had about 1/4 cup this morning) and I m not taking any medication. I don t drink alcohol or take drugs. I m concerned about what s causing the irregular heartbeat and if it could be dangerous.
Arrhythmias may cause you to feel premature or extra heartbeats, or you may feel that your heart is racing or beating too slowly. Other signs and symptoms may be related to your heart not pumping effectively due to the fast or slow heartbeat. These include shortness of breath, weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting or near fainting, and chest pain or discomfort.
Seek urgent medical care if you suddenly or frequently experience any of these signs and symptoms at a time when you wouldn't expect to feel them.
Wish you good health. Regards
