What Causes Sleeplessness In Children After Taking Whole Milk?
My son turned 1year on March 5th. At 5 weeks of age, he had surgery for pyloric stenosis. Prior to that surgery, we switched him to a lactose free formula which has been great. Now, we have introduced whole milk/ cow’s milk. We started slow by mixing it with his lactose free formula and gradually increasing intake. This week he has been given whole milk a majority of the time. Now, he is having trouble sleeping. He seems to be fine during the day, but I wondered if this sudden waking, restlessness, and fussiness could be related to the milk not being lactose free? Once awake he has a very hard time settling and going back to sleep. He is waking at least 2 times a night just this week. Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Such features may be due to lactose intolerance. I suggest that put your child on lactose free formula and then see effect. If symptoms disappear then your child should be tested for lactose intolerance. If symptoms do not disappear in 2 or 3 days then child should be evaluated by pediatrician. Another possibility is infant colic.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
