Hello,
You are suffering from slight numbness in the mouth and throat. You have experienced this when you take green tea or any other tea. Numbness anywhere in the body is called
paresthesia. It is caused by pressure, irritation, over-excitement, or damage to the nerves. Deficiency of vitamin B-12 or folic acid can trigger a number of symptoms including throat and
mouth numbness, pain, burning sensation, etc.
Take food rich in
vitamin B12 and folic acid, you can also take supplements. Take warm tea or beverage. Avoid taking anything that is too hot as it will trigger symptoms. Diabetes and
low blood sugar (
hypoglycemia) can also lead to throat, mouth and
lip numbness. If diabetic, control your blood sugar levels at all cost. If not, make sure your blood sugar level is optimum(not high not low).
Sometimes, numbness in the throat or mouth, slurred speech,
blurred vision may be indicative of stoke, you are suggested to get a complete medical check up. Get all required tests and investigations done to stay on the safer side. Stay away from alcohol, smoking, recreational drugs or addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
