What Causes Slight Pain And Blockage In Ears Post Removal Of Wax?

I had my ears professionally vaccumed because of wax on the recommendation of my doctor. One ear proved difficult. I was told that the wax had stuck to the skin. Instead of using oil to soften the wax, the woman just persevered for several minutes until the wax finally came out. The ear felt a bit battered after that for a few hours. However, my ear is still uncomfortable 3 days later. It doesn t hurt - just a vague ache, a feeling of still being blocked and still slightly deaf. How long should I wait to see if it settles? It is Xmas and difficult to get an appointment with a doctor! Could a doctor do anything?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of slight pain and blockage in ears post removal of wax which is because of persistence of upper respiratory tract infection that has spread to ear through Eustachian tube. It could be due to eardrum injury as you put sharp instrument in ear. Need not to worry. You should take steam and blow cheeks with nose closed. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and allergy test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory. For now do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
