What Causes Slimy Feeling Against The Tongue Post Food Intake?

What does it mean if everything in my mouth (my gums) and every piece of food I put in my mouth tastes slimy against my tongue? I always brush my tongue--lately I have been using mouthwash for a little spot of gingivitis which is mostly cleared up. I don t think I ve had this strange slimy effect before when using the same mouthwash. (I don t know if this is related but I recent noticed that my tongue is now a little bit wedged shaped around the edges but I noticed that a little before everything against my tongue started feeling slimy. I have had Candida for a few years and take over the counter stuff to control that--My case of candida is NOT a private area problem.). My gums and everything feels slimy even when my tongue is brushed and does not appear to have any coating---all day long it s like that--I only use the mouthwash morning and night when I brush my teeth. I have had this now for several days. I am 33 years old and I have a good bit of stress in my life but other than that and the things I e mentioned, I am pretty healthy. I do not take any medication other than the same over the counter stuff I ve been taking to control my candida. Any idea why everything tastes slimy to my tongue for the past maybe 3 or 4 or so days?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain slimy feeling inside the mouth when there is no coating present along with a history of having recurring Candidal infection or thrush can be due to thickening of saliva due to reduced serous[ watery] component of saliva or it can be due to an inflammatory condition in mouth known as Burning Mouth syndrome that can be causing Oral Sensory Neuropathy which leads to transfer of abnormal impulses to brain and appearing to feel that is not exactly present..
Although it is an irritating condition but does not seems to be anything fatal or life threatening so you can first of all relax over it..
You can stop using the mouthwash that you seems to be considering a culprit for the problem..
You can do warm saline gargles..
Gargle with specialized mouthwash formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
Chew sugarfree chewing gums and tart candies..
Take Vitamin B complex suplements..
In case if do not find improvement in 2 weeks time consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation and look for causes..
You might be referred to a neurophysician to get checked for nerve related problems..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
