Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Slurred Speech Post Experiencing Heart Stroke?
My mother in law has had a stroke which effected her speech. blood pressure avg 220/ 89. She is refusing testing and last blood pressure is 1110/40. To me this seems extreme. Why are they letting her be released? To me something is definaly very wrong. She is an RN and knew she was having a stroke and had to be dragged into ER
The initial blood pressure was very high. Very high blood pressure can cause stroke-like symptoms that may resolve if the high blood pressure is properly treated. Even though the change in blood pressure seemed to have cause resolution of her symptoms it is a very drastic change if it occurred rapidly and I recommend she be observed in a hospital (preferably a stroke center) for about 24-48hrs. She should be started on appropriate home medications for high blood pressure and once stable discharged with the appropriate follow-up.
