Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been treated with klonopin for 18 years for Tics ( motion disorder) and it effectively has been extremely successful. About 4 or 5 years ago my speech gradually began to slur. It is fine upon awakening but as the day progresses it deteriorates to extreme slurring by nightfall. I have seen several highly recommended neurologists and have had brain MRI. Nobody has an answer. It has affected the quality of my live enormously. Any ideas?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of slurred speech. It could be due to asthma, nose block, dry mouth which leads to thinning of mucosa inside mouth causing irritation, inflammation, soreness and discomfort leading to Stomatitis and Glossitis. I would advice you to get your sinus x ray done and consult your physician to find proper diagnosis and then start treatment as per that. Doctor may also refer you to dentist or speech specialist. Avoid hot, sharp, spicy food. Keep yourself hydrated and drink plenty of water.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
