Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother has had three surgeries - 1994, 2010, 2011 for meningioma - right temporal lobe. She also had radiation in 94 and 2011. She now has radiation necrosis for which she has gone through a round of steroids. Recently, she was admitted to the hospital due to extreme weakness and confusion. The EEG was abnormal but did not show seizures. She is on Levipil. She also suffered a heart attack while in the hospital. As of now, she is delirious and has slurred speech. What could be the cause of this?
There are many causes of slurred speech. Disease or injury to the brain or nerves and muscles of the face, tongue, and vocal cords may cause slurred speech.
Slurred speech may also be caused by:
1. Alcohol or drug intoxication 2. Dementia 3. Ill-fitting dentures 4. Medication side effects 5. Migraine
Hope You will find it out helpful.
Thanks And Regards, Dr. Gaurav Prajapati
