What Causes Slurring Of Speech And Drooling Of Saliva?
hello there, I am 34 years old and had a stroke at the young age of 26.(confirmed). Approximately 2 months later I had D.V.T. in the right leg which was treated with Warfarin. Last night I suddenly felt weak and dizzy, had a pain in the right side of my neck followed by a heaviness and partial paralysis in the right side of my face. My speech was slightly slurred and I was drooling. It lasted about 20 mins and afterwards I was very tired and slept over 12 hours. There is family history of blood clots and strokes. Could this have been a T.I.A.? Should I go to my family doctor as soon as possible?
Yes that could have been a TIA. As for seeing thee family doctor as soon as possible, yes I think so. Even if you feel fine now TIA carry a high risk for a stroke in the following month. If you are already under prophylactic treatment with some blood thinner then perhaps that visit won't change much in your management but still an evaluation is in order for any neurological deficits (which would mean it's a stroke not TIA) or new risk factors you are not aware of and which can be addressed. If it happens that you are not taking any blood thinners then they should be necessary.
