Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 89 year old Dad might have been mis-diagnosed with Parkinson last year and was on carbidoba levo meds for a year. A few weeks ago he was in the hospital and Dr said he needed a pacemaker due to ocassional low heart rate. After the pacemaker he stopped shaking and his voice was quick etc.... He came home and is not shaking but his voice is now sometimes slurry and sometimes slow. He started taking fosamax and Provastatium Sodium again and thats when the slurring and slow speech started. What can we do. IN the morning he feels weak and has low blood pressure - the slurring and slow speech is much worse then - as the day progresses his blood pressure is better and he speaks better but not perfect
Low blood pressure may cause decreases supply of blood in all body organs. when blood supply decreased to brain then ischemic effects seen which causes weakness in body part corresponds to brain area where blood supply decreased and slurred speech and sometimes paresis. this is also called TIA( transient ischemic attach) as it occurs for sometime and goes away when normal blood supply restored. you can rule out brain pathology by having his MRI SCANNING OF BRAIN WITH INTRA AND EXTRACRANIAL BLOOD VESSEL. If it comes normal then there is attention to be paid towards normalising cardiac function and blood pressure. I hope this will help you.
