Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
pain in neck, not able to turn head. Driving over uneven pavement or tiny bumps is very painful. repositioning seating or try to get off sofa or chair very painful. Feels like something is going to snap at the base of my skull. I may need to get a neck brace. It may the result of too many hours working on computer & result from improper posture.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The pain in neck experienced while turning head or any other movement is most probably due to muscle spasm. Muscle spasm can occur due to wrong posture which may occur during long hours of watching television or working on computer. The initial treatment is to relieve the pain by relaxing the muscles with the help of muscle relaxants. Muscle relaxation needs to be followed by maintaining good posture, exercises to release stress and strain. Hot fomentation can also be done. In case the neck pain is accompanied by fever, then there is possibility of infection affecting the meninges. I suggest you to consult your physician for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
