Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am finding traces of blood, sometimes with small clots. in my urine about every other day, usually once a day. for the past 10 days. I m 76 yr old male in great health and fitness, 120/70 blood pressure, good chloresterol scores, recently stopped taking statins after about three years because of rash on torso diagnosed as medicine related. I still take an aspirin daily for blood thinning and general aches and pains.
Blood or clots in the urine can be caused by various conditions. When a patient sees blood in the urine thorough investigation is warranted to exclude serious diagnoses like cancer. Other (benign) diagnoses may include urinary tract infections like cystitis, renal stones accompanied with pain, glomerular diseases, etc.
Your best next step would be a radiological assessment of the urinary tract. I would suggest an ultrasound scan for the start. A urinalysis is essential as well. Other tests might be needed depending on the findings.
You can contact me again if you'd like when you have done the tests or sooner if you'd like to discuss your situation and options in more detail.
Kind regards!
