What Causes Small Lump Under The Skin Of Vulva?

Hi there,I have found a small, firm lump under the skin on my vulva. No redness or tenderness, and I have a tendency to get ingrown hairs and clogged follicles. I have a tendency to be a hypochondriac, so my mind immediately goes to the worst case scenario, which is cancer. Should I be freaking out??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Commonly small lumps under the skin of vulva can be glands or cysts. They may not be painful unless infected. Take care of your hygiene. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist or surgeon to detect if its vulval cyst, infected ingrown hair, Bartholin's cyst.

If it is infected you will need antibiotics (Augmentin) and anti-inflammatory (Combiflam). If abscess is formed, your treating doctor will do drainage. If it is cyst it can be removed by minor surgery but before that get biopsy of the tissue done to confirm it is not vulval cancer.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
