What Causes Small Yellow Lumps Around Tonsils And Swollen Lymph Nodes?

Hi,Ive been having a sensation of a lump in my throat/on the back of my tounge (left side) for about 4 months now. I have seen a doctor who told me it was an infection and prescribed antibiotics. I have taken 2 courses but no relief. There is no pain only discomfort when swallowing or drinking water( feeling of something stuck). There are many small yellow bumps where my tonsils were. I also have noticed small swollen lymph nodes under my chin. Im worrying as i fear it may be serious. Im a 20 year old male who has HPV as of 2014. Any advice please?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. There can be two possibilities under your situation. Firstly, you might be suffering from some bacterial infection that is resistant to conventional antibiotics given to treat such infections. Thus, you might need antibiotics that are effective against specific bacteria responsible for your infection.

Secondly, as you have been diagnosed positive for HPV, there are chances that you have developed Oral HPV that presents with lesions in throat and back of the tongue. If that is the case, then antibiotics will not help. Lymph node swelling can be associated with both type of infections.

Thus, I would advise you to go for blood test to determine complete blood count which will help to differentiate between viral and bacterial infection. In addition, you should go for throat culture analysis which will help you determine what microorganisms are responsible for the infection and what antibiotics can work efficiently against them. Based on the test results, further treatment can be advised.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
