What Causes Soft And Fragile Nails With Ridges And Splits On Them?

Why do my nails now have permanent ridges, and splits and very soft and fragile. At least the past 2 years, they are impossible to grow. Must keep very short. Still bend, and snag and cuticles also very messy. Is there some supplement I can take to make this better??

hi mam/sir,it might probably be onycholysis.it occurs in some systemic diseases such as Anemia (iron deficient),Bronchiectasis,Diabetes mellitus,Hyperthyroidism,Hypothyroidism,Ischemia (peripheral, impaired circulation),psoriasis, lichen planus etc.another possibility is ONYCHOMYCOSIS i.e;fungal infection of nails.please upload a picture of your nails to come to a conclusion.else, you can consult a dermatologist.thank you.take care.bye.
