What Causes Soft Dark Purple Discolored Swelling Behind The Ear?

I have a dark soft purple swelling behind my ear lobe and is tender to touch ! I had one a wee bit up higher than this one on the same hear in September and the doctor said it was an abscess so he give me an antibiotic which healed it up but now this one has formed ! Why has another one formed ? And is this an abscess ?
