What Causes Soft Spots On The Back Of The Head For A 6-month-old?

Hi! My daughter just turned 6 months old today and I found out that the soft spot on the back of her head was supposed to close when she was around 2 months old. However hers is about an inch to and inch and a half in diameter and reminds me of a bruise on a peach. What would cause it to not close? Should I be worried?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be an open defect in the skull bone of a baby. It is quite normal finding and will fuse as age advances. If you are worried, you can consult a pediatrician just for reassurance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
