Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a sore red lump on my chest, I think I was bitten by a spider. It has gotten bigger and more painful over the past 2 days.(possibly due to my bra rubbing on it). It feels fairly solid not squishy like a blister. Am I going to have to have it lanced?
Solid lumps over the chest skin are not lanced unless there is evidence of an active pus inside. The possible cause can be spider bite as you have suspected, an infected sebaceous cyst. Consult your doctor for proper clinical examination so that further investigations of blood, ultrasound if required can be done to come to a conclusion. Till then get started on an antihistamine, oral steroids, anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen with painkiller properties, prescription based antibiotic.
All these may help and you may not need anything like surgery. Surgery is indicated only if there is pus formation that is not responding to the above mentioned treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
