What Causes Sore Breasts, Nausea, Vomiting And Back Pain While On Implanon?

My implanon is scheduled to be removed in 2 weeks. The last couple weeks I have been having a lot of different symptoms and I m just confused if it s just my birth control or if I might be pregnant. Symptoms - sore boobs, boobs bigger then went down a little but still sore, a rash, nausea, vomiting, light headed, exhausted a lot, mood goes up and down, headaches, back pain. Basically some pregnancy symptoms. I did take a pregnancy test it was negative but that was when I first noticed some systems.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible that these symptoms could be related to your Implanon birth control. Implanon is a hormonal contraceptive that can cause side effects such as breast tenderness, nausea, vomiting, and mood changes. Additionally, it is not uncommon for Implanon users to experience irregular bleeding or spotting, which could present as a rash.

However, it is also possible that these symptoms could be indicative of pregnancy, even if you have received a negative pregnancy test result. Pregnancy tests may not always show positive right away, especially if taken too early. Wait for about a week after missed period and take a pregnancy test to get accurate results.

If you are concerned about these symptoms, it is recommended to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend additional testing or evaluation to determine the cause of your symptoms and to ensure appropriate management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
