What Causes Sore, Bruised And Swollen Finger After Pricking The Finger?

I had my blood tested by finger prick. The tester used a lancet on the side of my index finger. My concern is my finger is became sore, bruised and a little swollen. even after a day it's still tender to the touch. Is this normal? I've received finger pricks in the past and they never felt nor looked like this. I am worried the lancet may have been reused.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Though not very common after finger pricks, this is a normal reaction of the body to aggression. I will suggest that you apply cold packs to it and all would soon settle to normal.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

HI
Well come to HCM
If the prick site became tender and swelling is there then this could be due to the lancet infection and this is not normal but this need to be watch for abscess, right now this could be just induration but later this can be formed abscess, conservative management can prevent the further complications, apply any antiseptic agent on the focus if it is ever there, Tab Ibuprofen 400 mg three times in day, try to keep the hand in elevated position, if pus forms then antibiotic may be initiated and the best option would be Tab Amoxicillin 500 mg three times in day, take care.
