What Causes Sore Bumps And Furry Coated On Tongue?
Im a 48yr old woman. The center of my tongue is sore. It s red too. Towards the back of my tongue It has little bumps, and some of them are a little bigger that look almost like little raised blisters- but they re not. My tongue is a bit coated on the sides too. Ths comes and goes away after a week or so. I dont have an ulcer. Do have acid reflux, I take 40mg omeprazole (prolosec), daily. What do you think is causing this? Help?! :( Thanks. Sincerely, DEBRA LEHNERT
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern....
As per your complain the raised bumps on the back of tongue are nothing pathological but those are Circumvallate papillae which contains taste buds and are normally elevated in appearrence and arranged in a typical 'V' shaped pattern.. The white coating over tongue is probably THRUSH or CANDIDIASIS which is a fungal infection caused by Candida Albicans fungus and causes white coating on tongue and the soreness is also due to it.. The other thing is that Omeprazole is seen to be a factor for causing Thrush as it reduces stomach acid and increases the pH of saliva and stomach making environment favourable for fungal growth.. You should consult an oral physician and get evaluated and in case of thrush antifungal oral medicines like Fluconazole or Itraconazole can be taken for about two weeks.. Nystatin mouth washes and antifungal lozenges can relieve. Add more probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic to diet.. Maintain a good oral hygeine and avoid antimicrobial mouthwashes.. For soreness of tongue sucking ice pops and cold water gargles can relieve..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
