What Causes Sore Nipples, cramps And Lower Back Pain With Mirena IUD?
I am wondering if I could be pregnant and not know it. I have the mirena iud. This is my second one. I am 7 weeks late and have been having pregnancy symptoms like sore nipples with a clear liquid that comes out when you squeeze them and the fill full like when I was nursing, lower back pain and menstraul cramps. I just started spotting and didn't ovulate this month and i do every month. I had a pap smear on Friday and the dr said my iud was still there but my uterus was enlarged by 7 or 8 weeks, and there were no enlarged fibroids or thyroid. I'm not sure what i should do now. I have had 4 negative hpt test. I never feel like this unless i am pregnant. I have 4 kids so i know the difference.
Mirena like any other birth control method has a potential to fail albeit it is more effective than many others.
The symptoms that you have reported do raise the concern about a pregnancy first of all. However, you state that the pregnancy test was negative 4 times. This does not fit the picture, unless it was done very early on in a pregnancy.
So what I will suggest that you do a pregnancy test again on an early morning sample of urine. Also I would advise getting a scan done.
Once we have these results, we can plan further to look into other causes that may result in a hormonal imbalance in a way that stops the period and causes pregnancy like symptoms. Look forward to hearing from you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Dr. Sabina Hussain
