Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Recently, my doctor took me off of simvistatin because of elevated numbers on my liver test. He switched me over to Gemfibrozil. After hearing of possible drug interactions, I waited one day without the one before starting the other. I took the first dose last night and the second today. And now I have extreme sore throat and larengitus. Can this be because of the new drug? Should I stop using it and consult my regular doctor on Monday?
Hi, I would say Gemfibrozil is highly unlikely to be the reason for your sore throat and laryngitis. I would have asked my patient to continue Gemfibrozil and had done investigations for assessing the sore throat. I would also advice salt water (warm) gargling for relief of sore throat. So, don't stop Gemfibrozil and report to your doctor for sore throat if needed. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
