Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing severe sore throat and cough since last week. I went to urgent care and they took a strep culture which was negative and suggested I take mucinex and nasonex as directed. They suggested it was post nasal drip. The condition has worsened and I feel stress in my body due to constant coughing, severe throat pain and lost of voice. I also do not have a fever.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat along with cough which seems to be due to persistence of chest infection and due to chronic upper respiratory tract infection.
Need not to worry, I would suggest you to
- Avoid oily and sharp food.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Do warm saline gargles.
- Take proper course of antibiotics along with antiinflammatory medications.
- Apply mist humidifiers in room.
- Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get paranasal sinus x-ray done along with blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Harry Maheshwari
