Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 13 year old daughter started with a sore throat and then a cough. Now she is having stomach cramps along with a severe sore throat and still the barky cough. She had a slight fever yesterday but doesn't today. Does it sound like strep or something else?
Hi, Thanks for using healthcaremagic. As per your complains it seems that your doughter is suffering from pharyngitis(inflammation of throat). It is caused by bacterial or viral infections, most commonly by streptococcal infection. She is having barky cough due to irritation of her throat by inflammation and edema caused by the pathogen. If her symptoms persist for long I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist. He might take throat swab and culture to find the exact pathogen causing the problem. Some times the cough might be allergic in origin. She need a short course of antibiotics like amoxicillin to control the infection. As of now you can use simple analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen.Gargling with numbing mouthwash is very effective to control the symptoms. Hope this information helps. Regards.
