What Causes Sore Throat And Body Chills After Unprotected Sex?
Hello. I had unprotected sex with a girl I m dating over the weekend, and now I have a sore throat and have some slight chills this evening. I have seen recent test results that she is std free, but am concerned. I gave her unprotected oral as well, and she ended up getting a uti - any possibilities that the sore throat and chills are related? Thanks a lot.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Sore throat and chills suggest an infectious focus in body. Soreness of throat suggests that there is throat infection and thus it is the most probable cause of fever. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment of the throat and prescription of antibiotic and antipyretic (medication for fever) for infection and fever. Urinary tract infection (UTI) can follow oral sex and UTI can be accompanied by fever with chills and rigors. Thus, your partner can also have fever. However, since you are not having any urinary symptoms like increased frequency of urination or dysuria, UTI is unlikely cause of fever in your case. Please avoid unprotected sex till your and your partners infection is treated.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
