What Causes Sore Throat And Neck Pain After Sexual Activity With A HIV Infected Person?

Dear Sir,Before 27 days I had some sexual activity with a prostitute whose hiv status is unknown.(now I am thinking she is HIV positive).I never did any intercourse with her. I just touched vaginal area with my hand( I never did fingering too). That time one paper cut(not actively bleeding) was there in my hand.I am having nail biting habit(I am having a habit of biting skin at the tip of finger too). The vaginal fluid of the lady might have come in contact with the cut in my hand). After this I put one glouse on my hand(now the vaginal fluid on the cut in finger is inside glouse where there is no air present) After 3 days of this incident I started experienced sore throat without mucus and pain in glands in my neck sore throat gone after 5 days.after 20 I feel that the area under my chin is swollen and small fordyce spots on my genital area and body pain. Now body pain comming and going.light red rashes sre also on chest.Whether It is because of HIV infection? Whether I have to take HIV test?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

HIV causes symptoms 2-6 weeks after potential exposure, so you having symptoms within 3 days very likely this is due to another viral infection. Also, the encounter you explain is very low risk for HIV.

On the other hand, you can have a 4th generation HIV test done now and another one at 3 months from the potential exposure so you can be sure you do not have HIV and have peace of mind.

I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
