What Causes Sore Throat And Painful Swallowing?

I woke up this morning with serious stomach cramps/pain and a tightness in my chest. After a little while, the pain decreased but I still have a sore throat and when I swallow or breathe deeply, it s as though I can feel the air/food/liquid traveling down and then getting stuck in my chest. It hurts there for a few seconds and then fades away. What could this be? Also--I m 21, female, and have been taking (for only a few days) penicillin and vicodin (only before bed) because I am getting my wisdom teeth out Wednesday and had an infection.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to gastroesophageal reflux disease. The stomach acid may cause chest pain when is in the esophagus. I suggest using antacid such as Maalox three times a day. I also suggest to use a gastro protector such as Omeprazole 20 mg daily.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
