What Causes Sore Throat And Severe Cough In A Child?
My fourteen year old son started coughing six days ago, and c/o sore throat three days ago. I took him to the doctor and he tested negative for strep. They gave him an injection of Decadron. Since that time he began vomiting and now has abdominal pain which he points to as being around his navel which he says is worse when he moves and is releaved when he pushes on it. Are these symptoms related or does he possibly have a couple different issues going on?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of sore throat and severe cough which is due to bacterial infection leading to strep throat. Well it could be due to variation in climatic conditions as well or viral infection. Allergy from certain products can also cause such symptoms .Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take Diphenhydramine and Dextromethorphan for 3-5 days. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Drink lukewarm water throughout the day as it can provide relief. If condition doesn't get better then consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment. Doctor may erform throat swab test along with blood test .Do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat that is non spicy food. You should take cough expectorants, antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present in child. Throat lozenges one every 4 hours is helpful. Taking proper rest is very important.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
