What Causes Sore Throat And Tenderness Under The Jawline?
I ve got an extremely sore throat and neck right under my right jawline. It is very tender to touch the outside of neck and hurts to swallow. It does t appear to have any redness or swelling inside or out. It s been a few days now and it s now seeming to be affecting my right ear...slight ear ache. I ve had no noticeable fevers but I am very tired and have no energy. Does this sound like tonsillitis? I m not sure if I should wait a few more days to see my fam doctor or not.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Sore throat with pain in jaws radiating towards the ear are indications of tonsillitis. I would suggest you to visit your ENT for proper examination.
The ENT doctor may prescribe you a course of antibiotics along with an anti-inflammatory to reduce the pain. Meanwhile, you should start warm saline gargles as it will reduce the inflammation. Also avoid chilled water or drinks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
