What Causes Sore Throat Despite On Fluconazole Long After Removal Of Tonsils?

I have had a sore throat for 13 days. I ve been prescribed fluconazole 5 days ago but no improvement with throat. It has got worse and swallowing has got worse. My tonsils are removed. I m also feeling achy and nauseous but that could b to do with not eating today, pain is heading up into my ears?Thanks

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have an infection in throat leading to pain in throat and hard time in swallowing..
It can be most commonly due to bacterial infection while can also be viral in nature..
As fluconazole is an antifungal medication you need to get re evaluated to check for the cause of infection as Fluconazole can treat only fungal infection..
A throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and ruling out the exact cause of the infection..
In case if it is due to bacterial infection antibiotics like Augmentin can be advised..
You should also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Do warm saline gargles atleast 3 to 4 times a day..
You can suck throat lozenges and chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and drink plenty of warm water..
You can also gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocine to relieve pain..
