What Causes Sore Throat, Swallowing Difficulty And Ear Pain?

I have had a really painful sore throat for about a week now and it s hard to swallow anything, but I am still able to. I can t tell if my neck itches or hurts and my voice has changed. I have also had ear pain, but not consistently. Also, I have what feels like a lump in the left side of my throat right underneath my jaw. It might just be a cold, but without having any other symptoms of a cold, I m worried it might be something else.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Sore throat along with lump under the jaw that can be most probably swollen lymph node and ear pain is all clearly pointing towards throat infection.
It can be due to bacterial or viral infection..

Ear pain can be due to infection in ear via ear tube..

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.
Throat swab culture can be done for confirmation..

You can be advised antibiotics like Azithromycin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil or Aleve.
Do warm saline gargles.
Put few drops of betadine in water and use it for gargle.
You can also use numbing mouthwash like Lidocaine.
You can suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
Otogesic ear drops can be used to relieve pain in ears..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
