What Causes Sore Throat, Swollen Tonsils, Fever And Itchy Bumps On Thumbs?

My 16 year old son has a very sore throat (swollen tonsils, bright red with white patches), low grade fever, headache and red, itchy bumps around both thumbs. He is having trouble swallowing because of the pain. The sore throat and bumps came on together in the last 24 hours. Looks like strep but not sure what the bumps are. They are not blisters...bumps, more like bug bites. Any ideas of what it could be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query sore throat, swollen tonsils, fever and itchy bumps on thumbs which is a bacterial infection. Allergy can also be one of the factor , this can also be the reasons for itchy bump on thumb.

Antibiotics are first line of treatment option in this case. In case of mild fever you can take Calpol or paracetamol for relief as well as it will relieve throat pain too. Do warm saline gargles. Sip on luke warm water. Do betadine gargles . Also applu over the counter steroid cream on thumb.

Hot milk with a pinch of turmeric boiled with it at bed time for 2-3 days as it has antimicrobial action. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Maintain oral hygiene. Take proper course of antibiotics. Get blood tests done if required.
