Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...Hi I just got over a really bad sore throat my doctor thought I might have strep but the test he did in office came back negative so he put me on Cefuroxime Axetil 500mg one tab 2 time daily and Prometh with codine for cough. it has been almost a week and i feel much better but now my sore throat is coming back I can feel the swelling in my throat and I have multiple swollen bumps on the back of my toung what do I need to do?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems to be recurring throat infection and although strep test has come negative but it looks more like bacterial or strep infection and you need to take another course of antibiotics for atleast ten days.. The bumps over the back of the tongue are swollen circumvallate papillae and are arranged in a typical V shaped pattern and they are also inflamed due to infection.. You can continue with Cefuroxime Axetil or can also take Azithromycin or levofloxacin or erythromycin.. Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. Do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations, use a humidifier in your room. Avoid hot and spicy food and also chilled foods and fluids.. Sip on warm water throughout the day..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
