What Causes Soreness Along With Burning In Throat?

I have a bad sore throat. First I sounded like I was a smoker for 50 years!! Raspy & deep. Never smoked in my life! (I stopped being exposed to 2nd hand smoke when I was 19). Can't stand it. Had a strep culture done. 24 hours-Today-Normal Flora. Now, I pretty much lost my voice. I can only slightly whisper. It's sore with some burning. (I did have an emergency tonsillectomy in 2005 (I am a female adult, 45). I had chronic sinus/post nasal drip /allergy problems prior. Have not had any major issues since. This is probably the 1st really bad sore throat I've had since my tonsils were out (there was nephrotic tissue on my tonsils- they ended up taking out both tonsils). Today I've been gargling with salt water & peroxide.; Drinking hot water/honey/ sucking on lozenges; taking 4,000 mg Vit C; Echinacea- something called Goldenseal (which is a natural antibiotic)… Although this seems to be viral..so far.
What the heck?!! Is this going around? I need to get rid of this quick! (I am small/petite..I can't afford to loose an ounce of weight. I still have an appetite but it's sore when I swallow… Thank You for any thoughts:) ps. I don't cough often, but when I do it sounds deep and horrible. Croup came to mind… I have to look that up..

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the symptoms seems to be that of Throat infection only and it can be viral in nature if strep tests has come out to be negative..
You seems to be suffering from Severe Viral Pharyngitis along with Laryngitis leading to loss of voice.
You need to continue taking the remedies that you are already taking and along with it you should also do steam inhalations..
You should completely avoid sour, spicy and chilled foods..
Sip on warm water throughout the day..
You should also take a short course of antibiotics like Azithromycin to prevent secondary bacterial infection as it can worsen the condition.
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to relieve throat ache..
Gargling with numbing mouthwash can also relieve pain..
In case of no improvement consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
