What Causes Soreness And Redness Of Leg?

A friend had a charley horse last night in her leg.. woke up with a sore leg and as the day progressed, its become more sore. A vein near her knee (front) has become very sore, swollen, red and warm to the touch. I m concerned it might develop into DVT.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Soreness and redness in the knee may be due to overuse, trauma, bursitis, prepatellar bursitis, OA, RA, gout, etc. Presently you can take pain killers eg: Ibuprofen or Combiflam, one SOS when required. Let your leg rest, avoid excessive walking. Cold compress and elevation may help.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get all blood tests and required investigations (USG, Venography, CT / MRI) done. You will be given conservative treatment or treated by medical procedure or surgery will depend according to the pathology detected.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
