For a few months now I have had a dull soreness and calf spasms in my left calf that I feel most of the time. My calf doesn t seem swollen or red and there is no sharp pain. I am in my mid 40s and get exercise so I am not sedentary. I have not had any recent injuries.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Soreness and spasms of the calf are experienced due to accumulation of lactic acid, decreased levels of calcium and electrolyte imbalance.
Kindly take the following measures to overcome it:
1. Apply ice packs on the calf muscles after exercise.
2. Drink oral rehydration solution regularly to maintain your electrolyte levels.
3. Drink good quantity of water, fruit juices (citrus) and tender coconut to keep yourself well hydrated.
4. Apply analgesic gel on the calf muscles at night time.
5. Take calcium supplementation tablets once a day for 15 days.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
