What Causes Soreness And Swelling In The Gums After Tooth Extraction?
24 hours after the extraction of a tooth (who was broken into 3 smaller parts) the gum next to the extraction site is whiteish and a bit inflammed, feeling it especially when i smile or open the mouth. I had no pain after the extracton and didn't take any pain medicine these first 24 hours. Just the gums feel sore and big. Is this the normal healing process?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of soreness and swelling in the gums after tooth extraction which seems to be due to gingivitis, excessive tissue laceration and abscess or infection. It could be due to formation of dry socket.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain. Take plenty of fluids. You should consult dentist for proper examination and rule out other causes. Doctor may irrigate the socket for 3-4 days regularly and may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory. Do not use straw while drinking as it can dislodge clot.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
