What Causes Soreness And Swelling On The Tongue?

I have been suffering with the feeling of a sore swollen tongue for going on 3 months now. There is no visible swelling but the muscle is sore at the root of the tongue and under the jaw. Some days it is more sore some days less but there is never a day without it. It's 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is not visible visibly swollen only sore and starts to feel like it may be obstructing my Airway while in actuality it is not. But the tongue is sore everyday

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain soreness in tongue that is going on on and off since 3 months with a feeling of tongue being swollen that is actually not can be due to heaviness in tongue..
It is due to a condition known as Apthous Stomatitis that causes inflammation of tongue.

It can be caused due to a number of reasons like Allergic reaction, dry mouth, side effect of medications,Nutritional Deficiency [Iron, Vitamin B12 and Folic acid] , hormonal changes, acid reflux, uncontrolled diabetes etc..

You need to consult an Oral Physician or a general dentist in this regard to get evaluated and treated..

As of now you can do warm saline gargles
Gargles with 1:1 solution of benadryl and milk of magnesia can help..
Apply numbing gel over the sore for relief from pain especially during eating..
Take a Vitamin B complex tablet for a period of one month..
Avoid spicy, sour and acidic foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
