What Causes Soreness And Swelling Under The Tongue While Suffering From Cold?

I have had allergy/cold symptoms for about a week. My throat has been sore and running nose. No fever that I know of. I woke up this morning and under my tongue is swollen and sore. Do I need to see a doc or can I treat with salt water or home remedy? I have to work today!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and sore throat and runny nose is due to it..

Secondly pain and swelling under the tongue seems to be due to swollen lymph nodes that can be seen commonly during cold and the symptoms seems to be due to Lymphadenitis..

As it is a viral infection it will resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..

As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
-Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
-Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.
-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
-Do steam inhalations..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Sip on warm water throughout the day..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
