What Causes Soreness And Tenderness In The Knees After An Injury?

Hi about 3-4 months ago I was riding a stationary bike and my foot came out causing my right knee to go out in a fist painful movement. I went to the doctor because my knee fells weak and when I walk sometimes just gives out without warning. My inner knee is sore and tender. I went to the doctor maybe 2-3 more times for my knee asking for medicine that could help and they sent me with physical therapy and naproxen. It s now 4 months later and I m a lifeguard and the other day I was getting off the stand and I swished my knee wrong and it hurts just as bad as it did 4 months ago so I went back to the doctor and she said it could be my meniscus and is sending me to a orthopedic. I just wanted to see what you guys might think it is before I go to the orthopedic I m kind of scared because I don t want them to say that they can t help me and send me home with medicine that doesn t work and physical therapy - thanks!

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Pain in the knee after such an injury could most like be caused by a torn miniscus or anterior cruciate ligament injury.A fracture is less likely. The pain caused by these conditions may get better on pain medications and physiotherapy but any wrong path or move may trigger the pains or aggravate injury.Evaluation by an Orthopedist will be a good move.A CT scan or MRI will be very useful to determine the nature and extent of the injury.Treatment options may however be: various lines of pain medications, steroids, myorelaxants, physiotherapy or surgery. The Orthopedist will be in the best position to determine which options to take. The following may also make you feel better:
-Take a break from your major activities
-Ice pack placement
-Compression with bandage
Hope my answer will help you
Wish you a quick recovery
