What Causes Soreness Around The Ribs After Doing Sit Ups?

I recently did some sit ups on an exercise ball and felt some soreness at the time in my ribs (similar to a muscle cramp in your side when running), however now it s much more painful and it hurts to touch my ribs, breathe, bend over etc. What the heck did I do?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on your description, there is likely soft tissue injury to the muscles and other soft tissue in the chest.

Pain due to soft tissue injury can increase slowly over a few days to reach a plateau. In most cases, resolves within 1 to 2 weeks

There is not likely a fracture present because this would require significant direct trauma.

Treatment would normally involve (1)rest,
(2)cold compress initially , moving onto to warm compress after a few days if the pain persists
(3)protecting the areas from further harm
(4)anti inflammatory medication such as naproxen, cataflam or ibuprofen

I hope this helps
