Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11 y/o niece is experiencing soreness in her chest. I believe some soreness is normal with breast development, but her mother is concerned because there is a small firm bump, like a marble just under her nipple on that side. It is worse if she pushes on it or lies on her stomach. Is this normal development and she should watch it, or should she bring her to her PCP? Thanks
Soreness and hurt is normal during puberty as breasts develop. Release of estrogen and progesterone hormones make the breast tissue grow. Teenage girls may feel hurt or soreness around the growing breast as the skin in that area stretches.
It is normal development. There is nothing to worry. However, if you feel there is a hard / firm bump that is unnatural you can get her clinically examined by a gynecologist to be on the safer side.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
