Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Soreness In Left Upper Forearm And Elbow While Lifting Heavy Objects?
I have soreness in my left upper forearm and elbow and lower left bicep. The soreness does not occur at rest, only when pulling heavy items or carrying items with my arm extended. Do you have an idea as to what type of strain/injury this is, and what I can do to treat/alleviate it? Note: This started several months ago, but was not as a result of any activity. (Seemed to happen at random and has not gone away)
I can understand your concern. It seems that you have overstretched or in other words, sprained your muscle while you are unaware of it happening. It sounds like minor sprain as you experience pain only when lifting heavy objects and not otherwise.
I would advise you to take rest and do ice and heat applications in the area. You should apply ice immediately after lifting heavy objects for 15-20 minutes while you can apply heat at any time. If you do this 2-4 times every day, pain should be relieved. If possible, you should give rest to your hand for few days. You can muscle relaxants like Dan-MR or Hifenac-MR (Paracetamol 500 mg + Diclofenac sodium 50 mg + Chlorzoxazone 250 mg) twice a day for five days. Topical application of Diclofenac Sodium cream (Volini) can help, too.
If you do not find relief in 15 days, you should visit a physician for physical examination of the painful area and further investigations.
I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon!
