Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Soreness In The Chest Muscles Over My Heart?
I have a sore area which seems to be in the chest muscle over my heart. It does not feel internal or like it is on the surface. I can associate the symptom with a trip/fall. When I press on the area, I hear and feel a popping (as in joint popping) noise. I am not short of breath or any other symptoms. My blood pressure was high (for me at 130/90 last week at an annual gyno appt. I have an annual mammogram scheduled this week. I do have high cholesterol which is being treated by my heart doctor. He feels certain that this is hereditary. I have 0 plaque build up in my arteries.
If the pain on the chest is worse when you press on it then it is very likely related to the chest wall, the muscles or the bones there at the area that is painful. If the pain is close to the chest bone then Tietze syndrome can be considered. This is inflammation of the joint of the rib cartilage with the chest bone. It can be related to repeated trauma as well.
To help with both muscle pain or Teitze syndrome you may take paracetamol and ibuprofen and if no improvement please see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
