Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I sometimes have a sore ear. It is always on the left. I am not aware of any pain or soreness unless I touch the ear. There is no pain in the inner ear. The soreness seems to be localized on the ear shell and immediately behind the ear. It comes and goes and seems to have no logic.
Ear pain may be caused by injury, inflammation, or infection. The most common cause of ear pain is an ear infection, such as otitis media or otitis externa.
Otitis media is an infection of the middle ear, while otitis externa is an infection of the ear canal. But your symptoms don't fit in this class. They are chronic conditions with decreased hearing and ear discharge.
Time being, don't allow water to seep into the ear during the bath, put some olive oil or mustard oil drops, take some over-the-counter pain relievers like Advil and sleep without putting pressure on the ear. If the complaint persists, contact an ENT specialist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
